I have decided: no longer shall I diet. Instead, I shall spend the rest of my days slimming. Slimming is so much more positive, so much more affirming. Dieting just plain sucks.

Community Colleges

So I'm reading this article in inside higer ed about how community colleges are short changed when it comes to funding and how they are misunderstood. And, I so agree. Rural community colleges really get shafted: we tend to be small, our tax base tends to be minuscule, our states adopt funding formula which fail to recognize that good rural education costs more than good urban/suburban education... . Also, our K-12 feeders are underfunded and are under-preparing their graduates for us. Hence, we spend a ton on remediation. Typically, urban/suburban community colleges get students from high schools which have Library Media Specialists running their libraries.
