giant step in the other direction
So, we paid a fortune for a college management system that does not let us do requisitions nor examine our account lines. IT says the system is a work in progress. Trouble is, I don't see any progress.

Is it just me
...or has anyone else noticed that the more we put technology between students and teachers and the more we focus on teaching the student how to learn rather than actually teaching content the worse we do in comparison with other countries?

Love those Brits
I have decided: no longer shall I diet. Instead, I shall spend the rest of my days slimming. Slimming is so much more positive, so much more affirming. Dieting just plain sucks.

Community Colleges
So I'm reading this article in inside higer ed about how community colleges are short changed when it comes to funding and how they are misunderstood. And, I so agree. Rural community colleges really get shafted: we tend to be small, our tax base tends to be minuscule, our states adopt funding formula which fail to recognize that good rural education costs more than good urban/suburban education... . Also, our K-12 feeders are underfunded and are under-preparing their graduates for us. Hence, we spend a ton on remediation. Typically, urban/suburban community colleges get students from high schools which have Library Media Specialists running their libraries. Rural high school libraries, if run by anyone, are often run by

User experience librarian
I thought we were all user experience librarians, but, in this era of hyperspecialization, we, apparently, need to make the idea a new job title. I just hope it pays well.
